Data Notes

  • This query is at the daily level. Other queries enable aggregating data to month, year, and/or multiple years (see associated Data Notes). Select query criteria and interpret accordingly. For example, to compare annual temperatures by geographic region use [[a href="dataportal/query/builder/climate/Climate_Annual/MaxAnnHeat.html" Annual Maximum Temperature Comparisons. ]]
  • For the complete precipitation metadata file, please see [[a href="dataportal/metadata/Precipitation.html" Climate Ground Monitor Precipitation Metadata. ]]

Data Issue

NOAA data (https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/cdo-web/) have been reviewed and, in some cases, cleaned for the presentation of New Mexico data. Outlier temperatures (maximum temperatures greater than 120 Fahrenheit (°F) and minimum temperatures less than -30 (°F)) were removed as advised by NOAA. Data prior to 2016 were reported in Celsius and have been converted to Fahrenheit ((°C * 0.18) + 32). As these data were originally reported by individual ground stations, we aggregate to generalized areas when needed, feasible and appropriate, such as NM DOH Small Areas and county level. Local temperature differences are often not shown. In other words, there will be specific locations within each geography with varying temperatures, temperature data are either maximums and/or minimums. [[br]] [[br]] Precipitation is averaged over all stations in a geography, there may be possibly more or less precipitation compared to the aggregate geography, for example, county. [[br]] [[br]] Note: Some stations may be relocated or replaced over time; although they may still be included in a query, they will show no data results. Users may need to select multiple stations to have a continuous time series of temperature observations. There have been 390 stations collecting temperature data over the years from 1950 to present. There are typically an estimated 100 operational stations in any given year. Users may need to select different stations to cover differing periods of time, for example, CLINES CORNERS - Station 003027, CLINES CORNERS - Station 291913 or CLINES CORNERS 7SE - Station 291918.
The data and information provided through the NM-EPHT Query System are intended to support any individuals or entities engaged in activities designed solely to enhance the well-being of a specific community, which may include State of New Mexico. Allowed activities include informing evidence-based decision making in New Mexico to plan and improve health service delivery, evaluate health care interventions and systems, and inform health policy decisions. Other uses are not permissible.

As an NM-EPHT Query System user, I AGREE TO:
  1. Use the data for statistical reporting and analysis only.
  2. Avoid any attempt to identify or contact individual(s) represented in the NM-EPHT query system data.
  3. Avoid disclosure or use of the identity of any individual(s) discovered inadvertently.
  4. Avoid linkage of NM-EPHT query system data with other data that, after linkage, might allow identification of an individual represented in the NM-EPHT query system data.
  5. Use appropriate safeguards to prevent the identification of any individual(s) represented in the data, including when disclosing NM-EPHT Query System data to others.
  6. Report IMMEDIATELY any inadvertent or intentional identity disclosures or violations of this agreement of which I become aware to the Epidemiology and Response Division, New Mexico Department of Health, (505) 827-0006.
